Internet of things brings changes in the organization as none of the technologies so far. Internet of things affects on changes in the organization more than reengineering of business processes, the concept of „six sigma“, the concept of „lean“ production or any other business concept that occurs periodically, achieves success and is forgotten when the next big thing or technology appears. Mutual approaching of information and communication technologies and operations technology has led to a point of change for understanding a vision and a need for a related enterprise. The combination of data from both worlds, from information and communication technologies and from operations technology, and the secure connection of data from production with business data and information, leads to numerous advantages. Internet of things leads to acceleration of functions of a related enterprise. It is estimated that the impact of the internet of things, on the business environment, will bring more changes over the next 10 years, than any other technology in the past 50 years. The paper presents theoretical basics of the internet of things, platforms for development and technologies. Systems based on the application of information and communication technologies in traffic and transport are called intelligent transport systems. The paper also presents an overview of elements, architecture and examples of the use of intelligent transport systems and the internet of things in road traffic.
