Abstract

Mathematics is one of the first sciences arising from different types of problems that people have faced throughout history, and as such is one of the main and core subjects at all technical faculties. Knowledge of mathematics is used in various maritime activities including the seafarers training. Quality of their education contributes to knowledge society creation which is necessary for economic development of each country. At the Faculty of Maritime Studies, such as the Maritime Faculty of Split, mathematical subjects are mandatory at all studies. The basic knowledge necessary to take many professional subjects is acquired by its overcoming. The structure of the ship and her purpose, navigation, safety of navigation and the like would not be possible without the knowledge and application of mathematics.
