Obtaining the evidence and investigating traffic accidents, especially criminal, by police officers and other entities involved in such events require the need for both explicit and silent knowledge. Particularly important is if traffic accidents are caused by an unknown driver, either he escape from the scene of the event in vehicle or without vehicle. In cases of driver's escape from a traffic accident site, in addition to the quality of the evidence, a police officer and a competent State Attorney's Office are required to conduct a thorough criminal investigation. The primary goal is to determine all the circumstances of occurrence of the event and the consequences at the scene of the event as well as to determine the identity of the driver. In this paper, with the elaboration of statistical indicators of traffic accidents with unknown drivers, the manner of policing of police officers during the conduct of such an inspection and the process of criminal investigation of a traffic accident caused by an unknown driver, who arbitrarily left the venue of the event, was presented. Based on collected data and conducted traffic accident analyses, guidelines for action were proposed for the purpose of better performing the traffic accident investigation and improving the road traffic safety.
